Julie Deborah Kavner is an American actress. She first gained attention for her role as Brenda Morgenstern, the sister of the protagonist of Valerie Harper in the sitcom Rhoda, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She is known for her role as Marge Simpson in the animated series The Simpsons. She has also voiced other characters in the series, including Marge's mother, Jacqueline Bouvier, and sisters Patty and Selma Bouvier. Known for her improvisation and exceptional “biliary voice”, Kavner was chosen to play the first Brenda Morgenstern in Rhoda in 1974. Since 1987, Kavner started appearing on The Tracey Ullman Show. The Tracey Ullman Show includes a short animated series about a family with a dysfunction. The short films needed voices, and the producers asked Kavner to voice Marge. The shorts have been transformed into The Simpsons.
